St. John XXIII Hospital Aber on Monday, 31 August 2026, hosted a delegation from the Rotary Club of Tororo for an orientation and training session aimed at introducing hospital staff to Rotary, its values and its approach to community service.
The delegation was led by Rotarian Emokol Francis, President of the Rotary Club of Tororo, together with Rotarian Willbroad Okun, Project Director, and Rotarian Akongo Angella, the hospital’s primary contact for the engagement.
The visit provided an opportunity for staff to learn more about Rotary and explore how its service-oriented approach can contribute to community development and collaboration in Aber and the surrounding communities.
Understanding Rotary and Its Mission
During the training, the visiting team introduced participants to the history, values, structure and activities of Rotary. Particular emphasis was placed on service, leadership, fellowship and community development.
The orientation also helped participants understand how Rotary clubs operate and the role members can play in identifying community needs and working together to develop practical initiatives that create meaningful and sustainable impact.
The engagement provided a platform for staff to ask questions, gain a better understanding of Rotary membership and consider how a local Rotary club could contribute to service initiatives within the community.
Beginning the Formation of the Rotary Club of Aber
Following the orientation and training, interested staff came together to take the first practical step towards establishing a Rotary club in Aber.
A formation committee was constituted to initiate and guide the process of establishing the Rotary Club of Aber. The committee will coordinate the initial activities, mobilize prospective members and work closely with the Rotary Club of Tororo and relevant Rotary leadership as the formation process progresses.
The establishment of the committee marks an important milestone. While the Rotary Club of Aber is still in the formation stage, the committee provides an organized structure through which the initiative can move forward.
Strengthening a Culture of Service
The proposed Rotary Club of Aber has the potential to provide a platform for staff and other community-minded individuals to come together, share ideas and contribute to initiatives addressing local needs.
For St. John XXIII Hospital Aber, the initiative also presents an opportunity to strengthen community engagement, partnerships and collaboration around activities that can contribute to improved health and social wellbeing.
The formation of the club is therefore not only about establishing a local Rotary presence but also about creating opportunities for people with a shared commitment to service to work together for the benefit of the wider community.

The visit by the Rotary Club of Tororo marked an important beginning in the process of establishing the Rotary Club of Aber. The orientation provided the foundation, while the formation committee will now help coordinate the next steps.
