Overview
At St. John XXIII Hospital-Aber, our Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Department is dedicated to providing comprehensive HIV care and support services. Supported by partners such as PEPFAR, RHITES N Lango, and the Joint Medical Store, our ART program is essential in enhancing the health and well-being of our community. We offer a wide range of HIV-related services aimed at prevention, treatment, and holistic care.
Our HIV/AIDS Services
- Free HIV Counseling; Our ART department offers free HIV counseling services, including pre-test and post-test counseling. Our trained counselors provide compassionate and confidential support, helping individuals understand the testing process, interpret results, and make informed decisions.
- Free HIV Testing; We provide free HIV testing services for both children and adults. Early detection is critical for effective HIV management. Our testing services are conducted with respect for privacy and confidentiality, ensuring a safe environment for all patients.
- Follow-Up Care for HIV Patients; Continuous follow-up is essential for effective HIV management. Our dedicated team monitors the health of our HIV patients, ensuring they receive regular check-ups, necessary medical interventions, and ongoing support to maintain their health and well-being.
- Tuberculosis (TB) Case Management; Given the link between HIV and tuberculosis, our ART department handles TB cases among HIV-positive patients. We provide comprehensive TB screening, diagnosis, and treatment services to prevent and manage TB infections effectively.
- Cervical Cancer Screening; We offer cervical cancer screening services to women living with HIV, who are at a higher risk. Early detection through regular screening helps in the timely management and treatment of cervical cancer.
- Distribution of Antiretroviral (ARV) Drugs; Our department ensures the timely and efficient distribution of ARV drugs both at our facilities and within the community. For patients unable to visit our hospital, our outreach programs deliver medications directly to their homes, ensuring uninterrupted access to life-saving treatments.
- Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Administration; To prevent HIV transmission, we offer both PrEP and PEP services. PrEP is provided to individuals at high risk of contracting HIV, while PEP is available for those who may have been exposed to the virus. These preventive measures are integral to our comprehensive HIV prevention strategy.
Our Commitment
Our mission at the ART Department is to empower individuals living with HIV/AIDS through quality care, support, and education. We strive to achieve the global 95-95-95 targets: ensuring 95% of individuals living with HIV know their status, 95% of those diagnosed are on antiretroviral therapy, and 95% of those on therapy achieve viral suppression.
Fighting Stigma and Discrimination
We are dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. Through education and community engagement, we work to combat stigma and discrimination, fostering a culture of acceptance and understanding.
