Dr. Jimmy Odaga – General Surgeon
Dr. Jimmy Odaga brings over 14 years of dedicated experience in the field of general surgery. His expertise encompasses a broad range of surgical disciplines including gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, urological procedures, endocrine surgery, and orthopedics. Trained in both Uganda and India, Dr. Odaga’s career has been marked by a deep commitment to providing high-quality surgical care in resource-limited settings and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals.
Career Path:
Dr. Odaga began his medical journey with an internship at Lacor Hospital, which provided him with foundational clinical experience. He then joined Angal St. Luke Hospital in Nebbi as a Medical Officer, where he served for five years, including three years as Medical Director. This period was instrumental in developing his passion for surgery due to observed service gaps. He furthered his education with a Master of Medicine in Surgery (MMED-Surgery) from Makerere University and later became a lecturer at Muni University. Driven by a passion for hands-on surgical practice, Dr. Odaga joined CUAMM and has been serving as the resident CUAMM surgeon at St. John XXIII Hospital Aber.
Team Role and Contributions:
A senior member of the surgical team, Dr. Odaga plays an instrumental role in mentoring medical students, interns, and junior doctors, ensuring they receive practical training and guidance. His blend of clinical expertise and management experience allows him to oversee complex surgeries and contribute to the hospital’s research efforts.

Dr. Odaga is also recognized for his contributions to medical research. His publication, “Wandering Spleen: An Unsuspected Presentation at a Rural Hospital in Uganda,” featured in the International Journal of Surgery (2023), has gained prominence on platforms like ResearchGate, the National Institute of Health, and ScienceDirect. His focus on research strengthens the surgical team’s expertise at St. John XXIII Hospital Aber, enhancing the hospital’s reputation for quality care and research advancement.
